Jesus was the fulfillment of prophecies concerning the Messiah. The Old Testament contains many prophetic predictions concerning Christ’s life and work (Luke 24:25-27; 44-47). Let us observe some of these prophecies.

Prophecy: Isaiah 9:7

Fulfillment: Luke 1:32-33

Prophecy: Isaiah 7:14

Fulfillment: Luke 1:26-31

Prophecy: Zechariah 9:9

Fulfillment: Mark 11:7-10

Prophecy: Isaiah 50:6

Fulfillment: Matthew 26:67

Prophecy: Isaiah 53:12

Fulfillment: Mark 15:27-28

Prophecy: Psalm 22:17-18

Fulfillment: Matthew 27:35-36

Prophecy: Psalm 22:1

Fulfillment: Matthew 27:46

Prophecy: Psalm 34:20

Fulfillment: John 19:32-36

These are but a few of the many prophecies Jesus fulfilled. If the Old Testament is still in effect, then we are still waiting for these prophecies to be fulfilled. But because Jesus fulfilled them they are no longer in need of fulfillment. Thus we are no longer under the Old Testament.
