THE APPLE OF HIS EYE
“For He who touches you touches the apple of his eye” (Zech. 2:8). What an interesting description of how God looks upon his people. The apple of his eye. There is nothing more important to God than his children. We are his and we should rejoice in that. God loves us and desires a relationship with us. The God of the universe loves us! Christians are the most blessed people in the world.
He Accepts us in His Son. God proved that we are the apple of his eye by saving us. “But God commendeth his love for us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8). We were saved, not because we were good enough or because we deserved it, but because he loved us and had mercy on us. “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but by His mercy He saved us...” (Titus 3:5). Whenever you wonder how much you are worth, think about Calvary. When you get down on yourself because you just can’t seem to “measure up,” look at the cross. When Satan reminds you of your past failures, remember Jesus and what he did for you. It is still the best news in the world today: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever will believe in Him should not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16).
He Advises us through His Scripture. God proved that we are the apple of His eye by giving His word to guide us. Have you ever thought what life would be like without the Bible? Had God chosen not to reveal his will to us, life would be frightening indeed. But because of his love for us, he sent his word to be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Ps. 119:105). We can understand God’s will (Eph. 5:17). We do not have to wonder—we can know for sure what the Lord would have us to do.
He Attends to our Supplication. The God of the universe has taught us to pray to him (1 The. 5:17; Phil. 4:6). We know that he will hear our cries because he cares about us (1 Pet. 5:7). Our heavenly Father tenderly invites one and all to come into a right relationship with him, and then to cast our worries and concerns upon him.
He Assists us with His Spirit. He proved that we are the apple of His eye by sending his Spirit to indwell us. What a wonderful blessing it is to know that our eternity has been sealed by the Holy Spirit. “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.” (Eph. 1:13). “We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him” (Acts 5:32).
There is no question that you and I will truly appreciate the love that God has for us when we understand that our lives have the abiding presence of his Spirit. “Know ye not that your body is a temple of the Holy Ghost, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own” (1 Cor. 6:19).
Believers are indeed the apple of His eye.
