COME TO JESUS
The greatest invitation ever offered was offered by the greatest man who ever lived: Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matt. 11:28). From this text we see that the invitation of God is very simple.
Who is it that makes this wonderful offer? Jesus the Christ! Don’t wait until you “have it all together” before you come. If so, you will never come. Come first, and he will help you get it together. The only requirement is a willingness to stop going in the direction of sin and begin going in the direction of the Savior. Jesus saves and Jesus invites. He will do everything except accept the invitation for you. You have to come to him!
“But doesn’t he have to come to me, too?” you say. He already has! That is what his life on earth was all about. He has already come to you! That is why this invitation is extended. You must now come to him, or his life and death profit you nothing.
Anyone can come and partake of this offer (John 7:37). The only requirement for coming to Jesus is desire. If you want to come, you can come! No matter how old or young, rich or poor you are, you can come. If you are male or female, American or Chinese, Black or White, you can come. Gay, straight, married, divorced, happy or sad, you can come. His promises are offered to you. Will you accept them?
People everywhere are hurting in many ways. All of us have problems. Jesus’ promise helps us understand what he meant by his offer of a more abundant life (John 10:10). Jesus is the answer to the problems of life. But his promise of rest extends to the next life, as well.
Have you responded to Christ’s simple invitation? Say yes in your heart to him. Live your life for God the rest of your days. He will keep his promises.
